Setup Matters

The WiX Toolset discussions area on GitHub recovered from its spammer onslaught so we brought it back online shortly after our last meeting. Today's meeting was our first meeting with a full four weeks between meetings and, other than having a couple more issues to triage, we're still happy with the monthly cadence. Our next meeting is scheduled for 16-July.

The WiX Toolset discussions area on GitHub is currently offline because an army of spambots decided that WiX users were more interested in dodgy movie downloads than their favorite deployment-development toolset. We're waiting on GitHub to clean up all the offending entries. In the meantime, we had our first monthly meeting (albeit only three weeks after our last one) and so far, the new frequency is working out just fine. Our next meeting is scheduled for 18 June.

Not every meeting can be an email but that doesn't mean we need to hold every meeting all the time. We'll be meeting slightly less often, at least for the time being, but it doesn't mean we love you all any less. Read on for our new meeting schedule.

In the past three weeks, we shipped a bunch of security releases, a WiX release candidate, HeatWave and HeatWave Build Tools releases, the WiX v5 release, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first time WiX was publicly available. Yeah, yeah, time to quit slacking...

Twenty years ago today, the WiX Toolset was released as Open Source. Twenty years is a long time in the software industry. So, while many people like to focus on the Open Source part of the WiX story, I want to take a moment and reflect on what enables the WiX Toolset to thrive after all these years.

As anybody following this blog knows, today, 5-April-2024, is an exciting day! Obviously, it's the -39th anniversary of Star Trek First Contact Day, when humans and Vulcans first meet. I'm not saying I dressed up, but...oh, right, it's also the +20th anniversary of the first open-source release of the WiX Toolset and, not coincidentally, the release date of the sparklingly-new WiX v5.
