Setup Matters

Not every meeting can be an email but that doesn't mean we need to hold every meeting all the time. We'll be meeting slightly less often, at least for the time being, but it doesn't mean we love you all any less. Read on for our new meeting schedule.

In the past three weeks, we shipped a bunch of security releases, a WiX release candidate, HeatWave and HeatWave Build Tools releases, the WiX v5 release, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first time WiX was publicly available. Yeah, yeah, time to quit slacking...

Twenty years ago today, the WiX Toolset was released as Open Source. Twenty years is a long time in the software industry. So, while many people like to focus on the Open Source part of the WiX story, I want to take a moment and reflect on what enables the WiX Toolset to thrive after all these years.

As anybody following this blog knows, today, 5-April-2024, is an exciting day! Obviously, it's the -39th anniversary of Star Trek First Contact Day, when humans and Vulcans first meet. I'm not saying I dressed up, but...oh, right, it's also the +20th anniversary of the first open-source release of the WiX Toolset and, not coincidentally, the release date of the sparklingly-new WiX v5.

Today's meeting happens only a week after our last one, a jarring change from our usual fortnightly schedule. It was for the good reason that we wanted a final checkpoint before our release of WiX v5 on Friday. Did we need that checkpoint? Were awful, recall-class bugs reported in the last few days? Are we shamefully slipping our schedule? Read on to find out! (But no, no, and no.)

As we approach WiX v5's release -- still scheduled for next Friday, 5-April-2024, the 20th anniversary of WiX's first open-source release way back in the olden times of 2004 -- it's time to ship some updates of FireGiant's leading WiX tools: HeatWave and HeatWave Build Tools.
