Setup Matters

The WiX team has a penchant for shipping important releases on holidays. Today's saint's feast day celebrates the release of WiX v4 RC4 and HeatWave v0.9.6. Then, as announced at our most recent WiX Online Meeting, the planned date for the release of WiX v4 is 5-April, the 19th anniversary of the first time WiX shipped on SourceForge back in 2004.

Today is my eighth work-iversary at FireGiant. In accordance with ancient customs, I put out eight pounds of candy in my office for my coworkers to enjoy. However, my nearest coworker is over 2000 miles away, so I have almost five pounds of candy left. Well, there's always tomorrow...

First, there was WiX v4 Preview 1 and the first preview of HeatWave Community Edition. Then came WiX v4 RC1 and a matching HeatWave and, of course, WiX v4 RC2 and a new HeatWave. Today, it's time for WiX v4 RC3 and the latest HeatWave.

Today we saw the effects of "documentation-driven development," which is what happens when someone tries to write some documentation about a feature and finds out the feature is hard to write about. Make the feature easier to use and it's better for millions of users, and, more importantly, the writer. Though sometimes it complicates triage.

Today we're just five meetings away from WiX Online Meeting 0x100, a milestone we should most definitely celebrate with pie. Or maybe WiX Online Meeting 0xFF is more interesting. Hey, why not pie for both?
