Setup Matters

This week's update on WiX v3.10.3 is that we did not, in fact, release WiX v3.10.3 on Memorial Day. Unfortunately, a bug report came in that demonstrated the GDI+ fix was not 100 percent effective. Luckily, Sean was on point and fixed the bug.

This week's update on WiX v3.10.3 is that Sean volunteered to take over the v3.10.3 release, leaving me to sip piña coladas on the beach. (Just kidding—the beach is full of blinding and hot sunlight and piña-colada-dirtying sand.)

Today was a big day, full of announcements and technical problems with Skype.

We had a slight-larger-than-average number of issues accumulate during the two weeks since meeting #102. Given that it's evenly divided into the two weeks between meetings, we're concluding that having a slightly-longer-than-average meeting every two weeks is still a good trade.

Today's meeting is number 102 and coincidentally the twelfth anniversary of the first open-source release of WiX. Rob's blog post on that momentous occasion is worth a re-read. And remember, the cake is not always a lie.

At Build 2016 today, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will gain support for desktop applications in the Windows Store using AppX. These modern desktop applications can even take advantage of Windows 10's Universal Windows Platform features. The FireGiant AppX Extension for the WiX Toolset has been enhanced to support modern desktop applications, in addition to its existing support for Nano Server.
