Welcome to August 2017 Patch Tuesday/WiX Online Meeting number 132! Today's meeting was just about triaging our open bugs, as we're still in the gearing-up phase for finishing WiX v4.0. But details on that are forthcoming so stay tuned.

WiX Online Meeting #132 Highlights
Issue triage
-
Visual Studio 2017 Extension ignores variable in Output name setting, from @PRR24, came back from declined status as a feature request. While nobody was actively hostile toward the feature, also was nobody interested in it, so we kept it declined unless the reporter was interested in doing the work.
-
WIX 3.11 doesn’t uninstall a previous version of embedded bundle during upgrade, from @mediawolf, remains on my list of this to investigate.
-
Failed NetFx462Redist installation is reported with incorrect error message, from @jozefizso, requests a better error message than “Asia” when the .NET Framework redistributable is blocked for whatever of the many reasons it can be blocked. We agreed and took this issue in WiX v4.x.
-
Bundle - pipe broke by AntiVirus software, from @ipetrovic11, demonstrates that some antivirus software doesn’t immediately terminate suspected executables but can put them in a temporary penalty box. Retrying the bundle operation should succeed if the bundle executable is released from the penalty box. We took the issue in WiX v4.x.
-
WiX v4 should automatically set msidbFileAttributesChecksum for PE files, from @barnson, says that we shouldn’t have to manually specify
Checksum="yes"
for files that have a PE checksum. Rob countered that PE checksums might be of only historical significance and that maybe instead we could get rid of it entirely. I took the issue to investigate.
