In the beginning...

FireGiant was founded in January of 2013 by Rob Mensching and Kirk Fertitta. Rob and Kirk share a passion for developer tools and have spent the bulk of their careers working in this space.

With the explosive growth in the use of WiX, Rob and Kirk saw the need to bring commercial-grade support to the WiX Toolset and have mobilized a team that includes many of the same developers that have been building WiX itself for years.

Rob Mensching

CEO and co-founder

Rob's career began as an intern at Microsoft in 1998 where he created Orca—the original tool for viewing MSI files and a vital component for diagnosing installation issues on the Windows platform.

Since that time, Rob has become one of the world's leading authorities on software deployment. As a Principal Software Design Engineer at Microsoft, Rob tackled setup and deployment issues in Microsoft Office, Windows, and Visual Studio.

Rob holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri S&T).

Kirk Fertitta

President and co-founder

Kirk's software career began more than 25 years ago at IBM, where he worked on the development of software simulators for the RS6000.

Since that time, Kirk has founded and led two other software companies—one building semiconductor fabrication software and the other creating developer tools for the electronic test and measurement industry. Products from these ventures serve developers in companies such as Boeing, BAE Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Keysight Technologies, Honeywell and EADS.

Kirk holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

WiX Online Meeting 311 Highlights

Ah, September, pumpkin-spice season and the beginnings of sweater weather. (Except here in the American midwest, it's 'shorts weather' until there's snow on the ground.) Here in the WiX repo, the summer vacation season meant we had only a few bugs to triage today. Luckily, they were interesting and, more importantly, Rob volunteered to take them, so I'm free and clear.

WiX Online Meeting 310 Highlights

With more than 300 meetings under our belts, earlier this month the WiX Toolset YouTube channel turned 13 years old! We began lovingly hand-writing these meeting highlights a year and a half later. As an official teenager, you can expect the channel to go through mood swings and start to test boundaries and break a bunch of dumb rules, fighting for its right to party. We expect the channel to quickly mature and buckle down on its studies.

WiX Online Meeting 309 Highlights

We're at that point in Northern Hemisphere summer where the weather is actively taunting us. For me here in the USA Midwest, late July is usually the swampiest part of summer. But this week, it's comfortable during the day and actually chilly at night. It won't last, of course. Rob's dealing with the outdoors at body temperature, which is the weather being so mean to all those Washingtonians who don't have air conditioning because it's hardly ever needed. Until it is. I wonder if I could buy a nice three-bedroom cave somewhere...
