WiX v5 is here! Let us help.

How Pricing Works

FireGiant sells its products and services on a per-organization basis for one, simple price. We base that price on the relative complexity of the product that an organization is deploying, and we've found that the fairest measure of product complexity is the number of software developers contributing code to the product.

Crucially, the developer count is not simply the number of people working on creating the installer itself. Our pricing model is notably different from our competitors' pricing models, where organizations must funnel all setup issues through a small, overworked team of "setup developers" and have to deal with license counting and build machine licensing and all sorts of other gyrations that are just unnatural in modern software development.

In contrast, we believe it should not only be possible, but simple and natural, for anyone in the organization to participate in setup, be able to build and test the installers their customers run, or to at least get help understanding how it works. This is the philosophy of WiX itself and it's certainly our philosophy here at FireGiant. So, we don't count nodes, or build machines, or serial numbers, or activations, or any such thing. We just count the people on the development team.

Our customers are smart and honest—we know this because they're already using WiX. We think this model makes life easier for our customers and enables us to provide a level of functionality and support unmatched in the industry.

So, who should be included in the developer count?

  • Developers writing code that will be deployed using WiX or the FireGiant tooling being purchased, including employees, contractors, and consultants.

And, who should NOT be included in the developer count?

  • Sales staff
  • Marketing folks
  • Managers
  • Graphics artists
  • Test/QA engineers
  • Developers writing code for non-Windows platforms
  • Developers in other organizations that don't deploy via WiX
  • System administrators
  • Build administrators
